Technician Rounds
hosted by the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center and the Wisconsin Veterinary Technicians Association
Topic: “What you need to know in the first 5 minutes”
by David Liss BA, RVT, VTS (ECC, SAIM), CVPM
The first 5 minutes is an introductory lecture describing the chain of events that occur from the minute an emergency walks into the veterinary hospital, to its admission to the hospital. Triage, shock, patient assessment, blood pressure, fluid therapy, and pain management will all be discussed. The lecture highlights the role of the veterinary technician in the emergency room and lays the groundwork for any hospital to apply basic yet powerful concepts to dealing with emergencies.
